Research

There are a couple things that I would recommend researching prior to the assembly. This is only a recommendation and can be completely ignored if you would like. :)
  • Grommets: For individuals who are embarking on their inaugural experience with grommet installation, the following points and recommendations serve as a foundational guide to initiate the process:
    • Understand Grommets: Grommets are small metal or plastic rings used to reinforce holes in fabric.
    • Gather Your Tools: Before you begin, make sure you have the right tools. You'll need grommets (usually sold in sets), a grommet setting tool, a hammer or mallet, and fabric marking tools.
    • Choose Your Fabric: Select a fabric suitable for your project. If it's lightweight or prone to fraying, consider adding interfacing for extra stability.
    • Plan Placement: Decide where you want to install the grommets. Mark these spots on your fabric using fabric chalk or a disappearing ink pen.
    • Cut Holes: Carefully cut small holes at the marked spots. Make sure they're just big enough for the grommets to fit through.
    • Insert Grommets: Place the grommets through the holes from the right side of the fabric, with the smooth side of the grommet facing up.
    • Set Grommets: On the wrong side of the fabric, position the grommet setting tool over the grommet. Lightly tap it with a hammer or mallet until the grommet is securely in place.
    • Test for Security: Give the grommets a gentle pull to ensure they're securely attached. They should not come loose.

Prepare Fabric

 Wash, dry and press fabric.

Ensure grainlines are correct for pieces (fabric is the correct orientation for the pattern). This is very important and can save you a major headache further down the line of the project.

Cut all pieces per instructions and design.

Mark right and wrong sides of fabric; if needed

Hood Assembly

Join the center back seam of the hood pieces with the right sides facing each other. Repeat the same step for the lining pieces.

Align the hood and lining pieces with their wrong sides together. Secure them at the sewn seams and raw edges.
Stitch along the edges of the hood, leaving the neck area open.

Carefully turn the hood right side out, gently pushing out the edges, and press them flat.
Close the neck of the hood by sewing with the wrong side facing inward.

Neck Strap Assembly

Apply interfacing to both the lining and face fabric of the neck strap.
With the right sides together, sew around the indicated markings on the design, leaving an opening for the hood attachment.

Turn the neck strap right side out, pushing out the edges, folding in the open section, and pressing it flat.

Top Assembly

Apply interfacing to the lining of the top pieces.
Join the lining and face pieces of the top with their right sides facing, leaving a small opening—preferably at the bottom—to later turn the top right side out.

Turn the top right side out, pushing out the edges, and press it flat.

Topstitch along the top, ensuring to close the opening as well.

Final Assembly

Insert the neck side of the hood into the open section of the top. Position the hood centrally, aligning the hood's center with the neck strap's center.
Secure the hood and its folds within the neck strap using pins or clips.
Topstitch along the entire edge of the neck strap to attach it to the hood.

 Grommet Placement & Lacing

Attach grommets to the marked spots on both the neck strap and the top pieces. You can choose the number and placement of the grommets as you prefer.

Thread the lacing through the back, front, and neck strap grommets, crisscrossing the lacing.
Tie the lacing into a bow and knot the ends securely.
